The book follows the vacation of two boys, Raj and Shri, and their dog Danny to Mahabalipuram (Mahabs), an ancient coastal village near Chennai. Originally planning a simple family holiday, the group expands to include Shri’s cousin Megha, her doctor parents, and Shri’s grandmother, Paati.
The group stays at a beach resort where they explore famous monuments like the Shore Temple, the Five Rathas, and Arjuna’s Penance. During their stay, they befriend a local boy named Murugan, who works as a guide to support his family. The mystery begins when Megha discovers an ancient, shining earpiece buried in the sand.
