Vasanthi and Gopal, two of the eight children of Kalyani and Ramabadra Chari, hail from the small village of Kuzhikkarai near Tiruvarur in Tamil Nadu, India. In this humble debut effort, they pay tribute to their parents, who—despite limited formal educa – tion—instilled in their children a love for learning and a deep sense of responsibility for personal growth. Growing up in a modest household, their parents used creative and meaningful ways to teach valuable life lessons, especially through proverbs, stories, and daily experiences. These teachings, often delivered by their mother, have stayed with them throughout their lives.
In honor of their mother’s birth centenary, Vasanthi and Gopal have compiled 111 such proverbs that
helped shape their lives. Presented in both Tamizh and English, this collection reflects the wisdom
passed down through generations. While the prov- erbs may resonate differently with each reader,
the authors hope they serve as a source of reflection, guidance, and inspiration.
