The author was born in Calcutta now Kolkata and spent her formative years in Delhi. She graduated from Miranda House Delhi University. She received further education from JawaharLal Nehru University. For a brief while she taught in Delhi University as a lecturer.
With the arrival of her granddaughter Tara and subsequently grandsons she began weaving tales of fantastic animals, whales that flew and dragons in distress. With illustrations it seemed a good idea to share them with other children.
