Description

In Pentecostal and Charismatic circles, spiritual drunkenness—also known as “resting in the Spirit,” “falling under the power,” or “overcome by the Spirit”—occurs when a person is overcome by the Spirit. There is evidence for the phenomenon in mystical Christianity and other religions. In psychology, and other social sciences typically characterize it as the result of autosuggestion, peer pressure, trance possession, or an intense desire for an experiential encounter with transcendence.
This contentious experience, which is marked by people wallowing and muttering on the ground while being possessed by the Holy Spirit, is not supported by the Bible and could even be misleading. Using biblical allusions to assess the practice’s applicability and ramifications, this book will look at being “slain in the Spirit” from a biblical standpoint. By studying the history of the Christian Church and sound doctrine, it adheres to the high time preservation of “orthodoxy (right doctrine) and orthopraxy (right practice).”
