Obstructive sleep apnea is a medical syndrome that is characterized by recurrent episodes of partial or complete upper airway obstruction during sleep. Sleep apnea is a sleeping disorder that can lead to serious health problems, such as high blood pressure and heart trouble, if untreated. This book describe the interdisciplinary teamwork between dentists and physicians that is required for oral appliance (O) therapy for adult patients being treated for snoring and/ or OSA and clarify the role and responsibilities of each professional in the management of 0A therapy in patients who are being treated for snoring and/or OSA. Treatments for obstructive sleep apnea are available. One treatment involves using a device that uses positive pressure to keep airway open during sleep. Another option is a mouthpiece to thrust your lower jaw forward during sleep. Oral appliances are alternative therapy for patients with severe OSA who cannot tolerate CPAP, are inappropriate candidates for CPAP, or who have undergone failed CAP treatment attempts. In some cases, surgery might be an option too.
